In the 90-87 win over the Charlotte Hornets, the Boston Celtics lost Kyrie Irving just minutes into the game after Aron Baynes inadvertently elbowed him the face. Irving was later ruled out for the rest of the game for potential concussion symptoms.

As the Celtics prepare for the Toronto Raptors, they have provided an injury update and playing status for Irving according to Twitter:

To begin the 2017-18 NBA season, the Celtics have unfortunately dealt with injuries. With Gordon Hayward and Al Horford already out, they somehow managed to overcome an 18-point deficit to defeat the Hornets without Irving.

After losing the first two games of the new season, the Celtics have won 11 straight games now. Despite only having four players return from last season's roster that made the Eastern Conference Finals, all of the credit goes to head coach Brad Stevens and players stepping up at the right times.

While there were expectations it would take time for the new-looked Celtics to come together, there is great optimism moving forward. Although they will unfortunately be without Hayward for the entire season, Irving and his new teammates will be the biggest threat to dethrone the Cleveland Cavaliers, who have lost seven of their first 12 games.
