Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart, who is down with an injured thumb, is confident that he'll be good to go come playoff time.

As reported by Chris Forsberg, Boston Celtics reporter for ESPN:

An article by Forsberg earlier detailed that Smart underwent surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb. The timetable for his recovery is slated at six to eight weeks, making him available come the post-season.

The 24-year-old guard suffered a thumb sprain after diving to the floor in their loss to the Indiana Pacers. Instead of sitting it out, Smart simply taped his thumb. The decision might have caused him as initial tests revealed that significant damage had been done to his finger.

This is not the first time that Smart suffered a hand-related injury. To recall, he sat out 11 games in January after punching a glass picture frame in Los Angeles.

Smart, shared his thoughts on the matter. He was reflective, sharing his love for the game of basketball:

“I love this game. I love to play,” Smart said. “So when that kinda gets taken away from you, temporarily or permanently, you kinda start realizing how much you do miss this game and how much it is easy to take it for granted when you can't do that.”

Smart, the sixth overall pick by the Celtics in 2014, is known for his pesky defense and hustle plays. For the season, he is averaging 10.2 points per contest, 4.8 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game, all under 29.9 minutes per game.
