Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart has been fined $15,000 for his criticism of officials.

Smart, who got into it with Charlotte Hornets big man Miles Bridges, was critical of officials after the Celtics defeated the Hornets on Thursday.

After defeating the Hornets, the Celtics improved to 6-1 on the season. They have won six games in a row since losing to the Philadelphia 76ers on opening night.

Smart, the heart and soul of the Celtics, is averaging  9.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. He is shooting 34.8 percent from the field, 32.6 percent from beyond the arc and 77.8 percent from the free-throw line.

Boston's next game is on Saturday against the San Antonio Spurs. Smart and his elite defensive skills will be tasked to stop Spurs guards DeMar DeRozan and Dejounte Murray. San Antonio is 5-3 on the young season.

Smart is making $12.1 million this season. He signed a $52 million extension with Boston in the summer of 2018, so he can clearly afford the $15,000 fine handed to him. Moreover, it is unlikely that this will be the last time Smart will be fined.

Smart's fine is much less than the penalty the Los Angeles Clippers got. They were fined $50,000 for statements that were inconsistent with star small forward Kawhi Leonard’s health status.
