Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart will miss the next two weeks after sustaining a self-inflicted injury to his hand, according to ESPN's Chris Forsberg.

The incident happened prior to Wednesday's game against the L.A. Clippers, causing lacerations to his shooting hand.

The 23-year-old provided an explanation over his Twitter account, apologizing to his teammates for his wrong-doing.

“I want to take this time to express my sincerest apologies to my teammates, coaches, and most of all the amazing Boston Celtics fans. I'm embarrassed and disappointed in my actions. I swiped at and hit a picture frame on the wall. I feel like I let all y'all down

I promise I will learn from this situation and come back better than ever. I love y'all and I truly appreciate all the support.”

His injury will delegate more minutes to young Terry Rozier as Kyrie Irving's backup during Smart's absence. The Oklahoma State guard has averaged 29.3 minutes per game in his last five games, making his absence quite a task to cover up for.

Shane Larkin also saw minutes in the low-20s during Wednesday's tilt with the Clippers, a practice that could repeat until head coach Brad Stevens can reincorporate Smart into the fold.

The Celtics recently snapped a four-game skid against the Clippers and will have their next test against the Golden State Warriors on Saturday on ABC.

Boston edged out Golden State 92-88 during their first meeting at the TD Garden, and will have a tall task doing so again on the road without a two-way player in Smart.
