Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart and Puma have mutual interest in a multi-year shoe deal, according to Nick DePaula of ESPN.

Smart’s rookie shoe deal with Adidas is set to expire. The Celtics guard was seen wearing Puma shoes at Monday's USA Basketball training camp:

Phoenix Suns big man Deandre Ayton, Sacramento Kings power forward Marvin Bagley III and San Antonio Spurs veteran small forward Rudy Gay are with Puma.

Marcus Smart is one of the more recognizable players in the league. He's considered the heart and soul of the Celtics.

Last season, Smart averaged 8.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.0 assists for the Celtics while shooting 42.2 percent from the field, 36.4 percent from beyond the arc and 80.6 percent from the free-throw line.

The Celtics lost All-Stars Kyrie Irving and Al Horford in free agency. Boston replaced Irving with three-time All-Star Kemba Walker and Horford with Enes Kanter. The Celtics are eager to show the league they will bounce back next season after not meeting expectations in 2018-19. Boston lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in the second round of the playoffs in five games.

It will be interesting to see which shoe brand Smart decides to sign with. It would be a big win for Puma if they are able to sign another marquee player.
