Boston Celtics combo guard Marcus Smart says point guard Kemba Walker “talks more than I thought.”

Walker, Smart, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are in Las Vegas together for USA training camp. Smart says he and his three Celtics teammates all went to dinner together on Sunday.

The Celtics replaced Kyrie Irving with Kemba Walker in free agency. Irving signed with the Brooklyn Nets after playing two seasons in Boston. The Celtics acquired Walker from the Charlotte Hornets in a sign-and-trade deal involving Terry Rozier.

Walker is one of the best players in the NBA and figures to develop a solid rapport with Marcus Smart, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown in Las Vegas. Walker averaged 25.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 5.9 assists last season with the Hornets while shooting 43.4 percent from the field, 35.6 percent from beyond the arc and 84.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Walker says he’s “itching” to get back to the playoffs. The three-time All-Star only went to the postseason twice with the Hornets.

The Celtics had chemistry issues last season, so it's good Walker, Tatum, Brown and Smart are establishing unity before they report for Celtics training camp in September. Smart even said Boston was “dysfunctional” on the court last season, but that the player got along behind the scenes.

The Celtics front office wants to see the guys co-exist on the floor in 2019-20.
