The Boston Celtics' impressive victory over the Washington Wizards in their play-in tournament matchup could be a costly one. Shooting guard Marcus Smart injured his right ankle after he got tangled up with Bradley Beal in the second quarter, and it could be a lingering issue as they advance in the NBA Playoffs.

But after the game, Celtics coach Brad Stevens issued a pretty optimistic update on Smart's right ankle injury (via Celtics).

“I have a weird feeling that he'll be ready for practice Thursday, knowing Marcus.”

Stevens knows Smart real well. So much so that he brought him back before the halftime break. Smart stretched his right ankle on the bench before returning and finished the contest for the now-seventh seed Celtics.

He only finished with seven points and six assists in 35 minutes but his presence was more felt on the defensive end as he shadowed Beal and Russell Westbrook—tweaked right ankle and all. If that doesn't prove how much of a tough customer Smart is, then nothing will.

Aside from Smart, young big man Robert Williams also had a scare after accidentally landing awkwardly on Jayson Tatum's foot in the second quarter as well. He stayed down for a few minutes before he was helped by teammates and brought to the locker room. He was also able to return but had a noticeable limp. He ended up with four points and four rebounds in just 14 minutes.

The Celtics, who are already without star wingman Jaylen Brown, will need all the firepower they can get as they next face the Brooklyn Nets in the first round. Good thing there's a weird feeling that Marcus Smart is oblivious to pain.
