On Tuesday, the Boston Celtics lost one of their own with the passing of Tommy Heinsohn. Among all of the people to speak out on the news, Bill Belichick — the legendary coach of the New England Patriotsspoke highly of Heinsohn during his appearance on WEEI radio.

Amid his comments on the passing of Heinsohn, Belichick discussed the impact that the former player, coach, and broadcaster had on the Celtics community.

“What a tremendous career he had as a player and coach, and as a broadcaster, he ended up bringing so many great Celtics moments to fans and really, the community,” Belichick said. “He had such a great connection to the entire Boston community, fan base and obviously Celtics fans but you know other sports fans in Boston that connected to him as well. He was an awesome guy.

Seeing that Belichick has spent over 20 years in New England, he's been to plenty of Celtics games. Therefore, he's had the time to meet Heinsohn and hear him broadcast games in Boston.

Before his broadcasting career, Heinsohn played for the Celtics from 1956-1965. While playing alongside Bill Russell, Heinsohn won an NBA Championship in eight of his nine seasons in the league.

Heinsohn would then become the head coach of the Celtics, coaching the franchise from 1969-1978. Even though he couldn't win eight championships, he was able to lead Boston to two titles as a coach.

The ability of Heinsohn and the success he had as a player, coach, and broadcaster goes to show how much of a legend he was in the Boston area. Belichick, who is a legend himself, understands the difference that Heinsohn made over the years.

We send our condolences to the Heinsohn family and the friends he's made along the way as well.
