It's jersey retirement day in Boston with Paul Pierce's No.34 jersey going to the rafters.

It was one of the toughest tickets to town, and people lucky enough to go were paying a hefty price. According to TicketIQ the average price to get into TD Garden for the game and the ceremony was $1,092 dollars. That is the second highest ever only behind Kobe Bryant's which average price was $1,477 dollars.

Once fans got into TD Garden on Sunday and figured that they wanted to take home a Paul Pierce souvenir, it didn't get any cheaper.

According to Darren Rovell of ESPN, the merchandise was expensive:

To get a T-Shirt with Pierce's name on only on sale today at TD Garden, it cost 45 dollars. It seems like a fitting price for one of the greatest Celtics of all time.

In his illustrious career, Pierce averaged 19.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. He also led the Celtics to the 2008 NBA championship averaging 22 points per game in the series coming home with the Finals MVP.

One of the most memorable moments from that series was in Game 1 when Pierce went down with a knee injury and had to be carried off the court.

He went back to the locker room in a wheelchair but was able to come back only a few minutes later and the crowd went crazy. The Celtics used that momentum to win the opening game of the 2008 NBA Finals and ultimately went on to win it all.

That moment forever cemented his place in Boston lore as not only one of the best Celtics ever, but also one of the best NBA players ever.
