Boston Celtics rookie point guard Payton Pritchard has impressed early on in his first season atop the highest level. As a result of his play–and apparently his No. 11 jersey–he has caught the eye of some legendary sports figures in the Boston area, including current New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman.

With the longtime Patriots pass catcher infamously sporting the No. 11 throughout his time in New England, Edelman recently gave his Celtics counterpart a quick shoutout on Instagram.

The 22-year-old Payton Pritchard was originally selected by the Celtics with the No. 26 overall pick in the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft out of Oregon following a stellar collegiate tenure with the Ducks.

As it stands today, Pritchard has made eight regular season appearances for the Celtics, though he has yet to start a game. Nonetheless, he is currently averaging 23.1 minutes per game while shooting 54.0 percent from the field and just over 42.1 percent from behind the arc. Pritchard is also producing 8.6 points, 2.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.4 steals per outing in 2020-21. Shooting 87.1 percent from the free throw line, the up-and-coming signal caller has also made a name for himself in the Beantown roster.

On the other hand, Julian Edelman has, of course spent, his entire 11-year NFL playing career as a member of the Patriots while winning a trio of Super Bowl title with the heralded AFC East franchise. Edelman was unfortunately hampered by significant injury trouble throughout the 2020-21 campaign, as New England finished the regular season with a disappointing 7-9 record.
