Despite losing his father last Thursday, Boston Celtics rookie Tremont Waters carried his memory over the weekend. Waters paid tribute to his late father on Saturday with a message on his sneakers while playing in the NBA's Summer League in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Waters wrote “July 11, 2019″—the date of his father's passing—and his initials, “EBW II.”

Waters chipped in 16 points in Boston's losing effort against the Memphis Grizzlies in the Summer League exhibition tournament.

The Celtics selected Waters with the 21st pick in the second round (51st overall) of the 2019 NBA Draft. Waters, a 21-year-old guard, played two seasons in the SEC with LSU before declaring for the draft.

Waters averaged 15.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game in 66 contests, shooting 42.3% from the field, 34% from beyond the 3-point arc, and 80.7% from the free throw line.

The 5-foot-11 Waters has put up 11.2 points, 1.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 2.0 steals per game in his Summer League tenure for Boston.

The Connecticut native is grieving the loss of his father, ruled a suicide by authorities per the Boston Herald, but he's being picked up by his teammates.

Celtics first-round pick Grant Williams told the Herald, “No one can ever describe what it feels like to lose your father until it actually happens, so honestly for us we just did what we could to console him.”

Second-round selection acquired from the Philadelphia 76ers Carsen Edwards said, “My main thing was to be there for him, for whatever he needs.”

While Waters lives on pursuing his professional basketball career, the memory of his father lives on.
