There are reportedly some members of the Boston Celtics organization who want to prioritize the development of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown over chasing big names in free agency or trades, according to Sean Deveney of Sporting News.

Once Kyrie Irving opts out of his 2019-20 player option with the Celtics this summer, Boston becomes eligible to trade for New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis.

To acquire Davis from the Pelicans, the Celtics would most likely have to part ways with Brown and Tatum.

Of course, the Celtics might pull back on that and instead focus on keeping both Tatum and Brown and getting them to grow more in Boston's current system. There are voices within the Celtics organization, sources told SN, that want them to make their development the priority over chasing free agents.

Team president Danny Ainge, though, still has eyes for Davis and still wants to convert assets into a superteam of stars. But after polling a variety of NBA-types – assistant coaches from the East and the West, plus two general managers – we found a wide range of opinions on the value of Brown and Tatum.

Ainge has been enamored with trying to get Davis on the Celtics for years now.

Tatum and Brown both have bright futures in the NBA, but it would shock a lot of people in the NBA if Ainge holds onto them and doesn't do everything in his power to get AD to Boston this summer.

Brown averaged 13.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists during the regular season, while Tatum put up 15.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists.
