Jaylen Brown has won the hearts of Boston Celtics fans after an All-Star campaign last season. He's off to another roaring start with a 46-point eruption in their first game of the season.

The Celtics may be staring down at a 0-2 record to start the season, but that's by no fault of Jaylen Brown. But once upon a time the young forward was on the table for a certain James Harden.

According to NBA analyst and former Celtics center Kendrick Perkins, Danny Ainge contacted him last season to get his take on potentially sending a package centered around Jaylen Brown for Harden.

Via Justin Leger of NBC Sports Boston:

“I remember last year around this time when teams were calling about James Harden and Houston actually wanted Jaylen Brown,” Perkins said Friday on Celtics Pregame Live. “I was on the phone with Danny Ainge for an hour, and I remember how our conversation went.

He was like, ‘Hey, Perk, would you trade Jaylen Brown for James Harden?' And I was like, ‘Danny, you know how I feel about Jaylen Brown, but I would trade him for James Harden.' He was like, ‘ Are you kidding me? He's not going anywhere. He's not even 25 and he keeps getting better.'”

Obviously, Ainge didn't listen to Perkins' advice and kept Jaylen Brown, who went on to have the best season of his career with the Celtics. However, James Harden still remains an elite talent and the what-if of that deal will be one worth wondering as time goes by.
