The 2020 Basketball Hall of Fame class is full of former superstars, one such star is Kevin Garnett. Garnett is one of the most dominating defensive players in NBA history and he also remained an excellent offensive one throughout his career. He was an MVP, a multi-time All-Star, and, most importantly to Garnett himself, an NBA champion with the Boston Celtics.

Some were shocked at the announcement that Garnett chose to be introduced by fellow Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas. Thomas is a Detroit Pistons legend and one of the greatest point guards ever. His connection to the former Celtics big man is a little unknown though. Kendrick Perkins, in an interview with Nick Goss of NBC Sports, shed some light on the subject.

Perkins stated,

“Isiah Thomas was a mentor to Kevin Garnett and is one of his favorite players and one of his favorite people of all time”

Perkins is a former teammate of Garnett's and a fellow champion with the  Celtics. Perkins started at center next to Garnett at power forward and all reports indicate they have immense respect for each other. That Boston team was a game-changer and both players were a real part of that.

Garnett is someone who clearly values respect above all else. He made that clear during his career as a player and in his post-playing career as an analyst. He was a famous trash talker and competitor, but he made sure to always let those who earned it know how much respect he had for them.

Isiah Thomas seems to be no different. Getting inducted into the Hall of Fame is the ultimate form of respect and adoration in any sport and getting introduced by a personal hero must be an extra bit of honor on top of everything.
