Following the series of tests Isaiah Thomas was asked to undergo by the Cleveland Cavaliers to check on the status of his hip injury, it has been reported that the team may ask for additional assets to finalize the deal. News also came out that the Cavs may ask for Jaylen Brown or Jayson Tatum, but the Boston Celtics will not give in to their request and will apparently only give up a second round pick instead.

The development has been reported by Chris Mannix of CSNNE, as tweeted by Adam Kaufman of CBS Sports. Already including Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, and an unprotected first round pick in the package, the C’s may feel that they are already parting ways with too many resources in exchange for Kyrie Irving, and are making it clear to their trade partner what they can only add at this point.

There has been growing belief that Thomas will not be ready to join the Cavs’ training camp and could also miss a significant part of next season as he continues to recover from the hip pointer injury. That said, the team wants additional compensation for the hit they’ll take with the 5-foot-9 point guard expected to be unavailable to begin the campaign.

However, the Celtics hold high regard for Brown and Tatum, and see them as important pieces for their future plans. The minutes at the small forward spot could also be divided between them, which could mean that Gordon Hayward will slide to shooting guard. Whatever the case may be, the Beantown team is looking forward to seeing them both blossom into their full potential, and appears to be leaning towards holding on to both youngsters.
