The Los Angeles Lakers didn't make any trades before the NBA trade deadline, but they still made a big acquisition, as the Boston Celtics are aware of. After the Cleveland Cavaliers bought out Andre Drummond's contract, the Lakers swooped and brought him on board. Drummond joins a Lakers team aiming to win their second straight NBA championship this year.

However, before Drummond signed with the Lakers, another respected franchises bid for the nine-year veteran. Apparently, Drummond nearly signed with the Celtics before ultimately deciding to go to Los Angeles, per Jared Weiss.

In fact, the Celtics were considered the favorites before he changed his mind and signed with the Lakers. It is a decision that makes sense.

Weiss describes Drummond's thought process about the Celtics and Lakers by stating, “he could not pass on the opportunity to start for a proven contender and be an immediate focal point as LeBron and [Anthony Davis] remain out.”

The Celtics are a highly respected franchise in the league, but as of now, are struggling to stay relevant in the playoff race. As for Los Angeles, they sit comfortably in fourth place in the Western Conference, and even with James and Davis out, the chances of making the playoffs are high for the Lakers.

Andre Drummond realized that and put himself in a great position. Drummond has the opportunity to win a championship in ways he could not have done had he joined the Celtics. If he plays great, then there is a chance he signs a new long-term deal next offseason. It's a win-win scenario for Drummond, which is likely why he chose Los Angeles over Boston.

The Lakers' next game is against the Orlando Magic on Sunday night, as the Lake Show moves forward with its injury-depleted roster. The Celtics host the New Orleans Pelicans Monday night.
