The Boston Celtics could reportedly have a commitment from point guard Kemba Walker as soon as free agency starts on June 30, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Wojnarowski says the Celtics are “more than a strong front-runner” for Walker.

The Celtics are expected to lose Kyrie Irving to the Brooklyn Nets. While Walker isn't as good as Irving, he's less of a diva and could mesh well with head coach Brad Stevens.

This past season with the Charlotte Hornets, Walker averaged 25.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 5.9 assists while shooting 43.4 percent from the field, 35.6 percent from beyond the arc and 84.4 percent from the free-throw line. The scoring guard made his third All-Star team, but missed the playoffs again.

Walker has only been to the postseason twice in his NBA career. The Celtics, assuming they land Kemba, would have a nice core of Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Gordon Hayward and Kemba Walker. Al Horford, like Irving, is expected to leave Boston in free agency.

The Celtics lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in the second round of the 2019 playoffs in five games. Irving had a great statistical regular season, but he failed to show any real leadership qualities and reportedly wasn't a fan of Stevens.

We need to see Walker play in the postseason. He's one of the most gifted scorers in the league. Signing with the Celtics would give Kemba the stage to shine in the playoffs.
