The Boston Celtics just picked up Dennis Schroder on a one-year deal for just under $6 million. The Celtics are now plotting their next move, and that could be a trade of Kris Dunn, according to The Boston Globe's Adam Himmelsbach.

Boston actually just acquired Dunn in a three-team trade with the Atlanta Hawks and Sacramento Kings. The Celtics sent Tristan Thompson to the Kings as part of the deal, with Bruno Fernando and a 2023 second-round pick accompanying Dunn to Boston. Delon Wright went to Atlanta.

Dunn barely played last season with the Hawks after signing a two-year, $10 million deal in 2020. He was a defensive menace in his last season in Chicago before that, but injuries and a woeful offensive game limit him as a player.

With Schroder, Marcus Smart and Payton Pritchard all in place at point guard, there's just not much room for Dunn on the roster. Boston also brought in Josh Richardson this season and has a pair of young wings — Aaron Nesmith and Romeo Langford — who could get minutes off the bench.

It only makes sense for the Celtics to try to flip Dunn. They currently have 16 players under contract and a bit of a roster crunch. Dunn's $5 million could be used for a future asset or possibly help in the frontcourt to clear up some of that backcourt logjam.
