Unlike previous years, the Boston Celtics don’t have a lottery pick in tonight’s NBA Draft in Brooklyn. However, their cupboard is not bare, as the Celtics hold the rights to the 27th pick in the first round. In addition to that, Keith Smith of Real GM also reported that Boston is looking to secure a second-round pick.

Sounds like the Boston Celtics are staying put in the first round, but trying to get in to the second round (where Boston's pick went to the Thunder). The Celtics could buy a pick or move a future pick.

As mentioned by Smith, Boston’s second pick is owned by the Oklahoma City Thunder, who secured the selection via a 2015 trade that sent Perry Jones III to the Celtics in exchange for cash and a future NBA pick that translated into a second-round spot in this year’s NBA Draft.

Like most other NBA teams, the Celtics have plenty on their to-do list this offseason. While they do not own a high draft pick, there is still a significant probability for them to get a gem from this year’s batch, considering that the talent pool is among the deepest in recent memory. The Celtics could get a complementary asset with that late first-round pick and even in the second round should a trade allow them to get a slot there.
