The Boston Celtics appear to be quite active in the market as the trade deadline draws closer. Right now, the Celtics are rumored to be in the mix for a key veteran from the Utah Jazz whose contract is set to expire in the offseason.

According to Matt Moore of the Action Network, Boston has shown interest in 34-year-old forward Joe Ingles:

The Utah Jazz continue to include Joe Ingles‘ expiring contract in trade talks after floating discussions around the league last summer. … Boston is one team that held talks with the Jazz about Ingles, but sources were skeptical that they progressed toward anything meaningful.

As the above report states, the Jazz are looking to get some value out of Ingles before his deal expires. It doesn't seem as though they're interested in offering him a new deal, which is why they're trying to trade him now before he walks away from the team for nothing in the summer.

It remains unclear what the Celtics are willing to offer in exchange for Ingles, but unsurprisingly, Marcus Smart has once again seen his name dragged around in trade rumors.

For what it's worth, a Celtics-Jazz trade does not seem imminent, but the fact that Boston even “held talks” with Utah could give us an idea of what type of mindset their front office currently possesses as we close in on the February trade deadline.
