It's no secret the Boston Celtics need to make some major moves at the NBA Trade Deadline. At 21-21, this season has not gone even close to how they planned.

That being said, the C's are expected to make both Dennis Schroder and Aaron Nesmith available in trade talks but the organization is also eyeing an intriguing Phoenix Suns youngster to help strengthen their frontcourt.

Via Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer:

Phoenix Suns big man Jalen Smith has been a recent trade target of Boston, according to league sources. There is a widespread belief the Celtics will be very active in efforts to bolster their roster around Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown in the coming weeks.

The Celtics made it clear recently they have no plans of breaking up the star duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown but instead, Boston wants to build around them. Smith is certainly an interesting name for this team because of his recent resurgence with the Suns.

A former 10th overall pick out of Maryland, Smith has proven to be a solid contributor for Monty Williams' squad in recent weeks as Deandre Ayton and JaVale McGee missed time. In four starts between December 31st and January 6th, he averaged just under 19 points per game and 9.5 rebounds.

The Celtics certainly need more depth at the five and with Smith's minutes set to be limited once again with Ayton and McGee back, more opportunities will be available elsewhere for the promising big. For the betterment of his development, it would only make sense for Phoenix to take calls on Jalen Smith right now.
