Cleveland Cavaliers big man Andre Drummond's short tenure with the team may possibly come to an end heading into the 2020-2021 NBA season. Somehow, the Boston Celtics are entering the fold.

The former UConn standout was acquired by the Cavs at last season's trade deadline from the Detroit Pistons for the expiring contracts of John Henson and Brandon Knight as well as a future second-round pick.

He eventually tallied norms of 14.7 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 1.4 rebounds in 28.1 minutes per game through eight games played for the Cavaliers. Despite his contributions last season, both parties have still failed to advance contract negotations and ultimately meet on an agreement. This could eventually turn out to be a shaky situation for both sides and could result in a trade if no contract will be secured in the near future.

“According to league sources, both Drummond and the Cavaliers have been discussing a possible extension for a while now. But, according to those same sources, there’s a noticeable gap in terms of how much money both sides are willing to agree to.”

With the stalemate on the current contract negotiations, other teams especially the Boston Celtics are already on the lookout to possibly secure the services of the two-time All-Star via trade.

“Teams like the Boston Celtics, the San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Clippers all make sense as trade destinations for Drummond and according to sources, the Celtics are monitoring the situation.”

Drummond has been a reliable presence on the floor with the defense, rebounding and scoring that he provides for his team. However, his lack of a consistent three-point shot still haunts him and puts him in danger of surviving in today's modern NBA.

Perhaps the New York native will find a better fit with regards to his playing style on another team aside from the Cavaliers. However, the situation will boil down to whether or not both the organization and Drummond can eventually put pen on the paper in the upcoming offseason.
