Rumors of Kyrie Irving eventually splitting ways with the Boston Celtics to play basketball in Gotham is a fire that has proven itself to be one that’s hard to extinguish. In fact, even bookmakers have put up betting props on the odds of Irving joining the New York Knicks in the summer of next year.

Take for example online betting site Official Bookmaker, which has the Knickerbockers with the second-shortest odds (behind the Celtics) of having the services of the All-Star point guard, beginning in the 2019-20 NBA season (h/t Bleacher Report).

Expect topics about Irving leaving the Celtics next year to get amplified as the 2018-19 season gets deeper. Irving is bound for free agency next season, meaning he gets the freedom to choose whether to stay in Boston or head somewhere else.

For the Knicks, it’s salivating for them to think of having a tandem of Kyrie Irving and Kristaps Porzingis down the road. That said, they need to worry about keeping Porzingis for the long haul, as the Latvian unicorn is bound to become a restricted free agent by the end of next season. Kristaps Porzingis can sign an extension with the Knicks this summer, but an offer from the team has yet to materialize.

A $100 wager on Irving going to the Knicks next year could yield a bettor $250, while a $100 bet that he’ll stay in Boston will only return $105.
