He just got there it seems but Kyrie Irving's long-term future with the Boston Celtics is already being questioned by some.

This sprouted up initially in the playoffs as the Celtics made it to Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals without Irving before being ousted by LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Now it's a new report that suggests the Celtics have concerns about Irving re-signing in 2019 and his former Cavs teammates think the New York Knicks could be a real threat in attracting him.

Via Chris Mannix of Yahoo! Sports (H/T RealGM):

“I think they're scared,” said Chris Mannix. “I think they're scared and should be scared to some degree of Kyrie Irving walking in 2019. I know he had a great year, but you know there are people in Cleveland that will tell you that the Knicks should be considered a real threat for Kyrie Irving. Because Kyrie had talked about it, about playing with the Knicks with some players in that Cleveland locker room from what I was told.

“You know things can change. Obviously you go to Boston and you become the face of the franchise. You're on a winning team. Maybe the mindset has changed significantly?”

Shams Charania: “I know Kyrie Irving's mindset when the trade happened was ‘Boston is my home for the foreseeable future.'”

That certainly is an interesting idea to consider.

Of course, even if this does happen it's not as if Irving is going anywhere else next season. And with the Celtics so primed for a potent future, it's much easier to imagine the success Irving experiences next season being more than enough to keep him in Boston for the foreseeable future.
