The Boston Celtics may be one of the teams looking to make a meaningful move at the NBA trade deadline next week. One player that may be on the way out from Boston is Marcus Smart.

The Celtics made it known that they would like to acquire a first-round pick in exchange for Smart in any potential deal, and now there are teams that are beginning to inquire with the Celtics regarding Smart.

League-wide interest in trading for Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart has increased ahead of the NBA trade deadline, league sources tell Celtics Wire. The price has been a first-round pick and a rotation player according to sources.

Before the season the Celtics were in negotiations with Smart regarding a contract extension, but no deal could get done. The Celtics wanted to remain under the luxury tax and Smart's asking price wasn't one the Celtics would agree on at that point.

Part of that was definitely wanting more flexibility for times like next week's trade deadline and with so many new pieces entering the season, it makes sense Boston didn't necessarily want to lock down Smart long-term just yet.

It appears now they view him as expendable for their long-term future since they'd accept a draft pick.
