Isaiah Thomas continues to audition for a roster spot in the NBA. Just in case you were too busy watching videos of kittens on YouTube, Thomas recently dropped a Kobe Bryant-esque 81 points in an exhibition game in Seattle. Pretty impressive for sure.

As expected, this prompted fans to dream of a possible reunion of Thomas and the Boston Celtics. After all, the squad seems to have a big hole to fill at the PG spot. While IT will have a difficult time getting the starting role, he could still be a key contributor off the bench.

One NBA insider, however, quickly squashed the notion of Thomas finding his way back to Beantown. This is despite new Celtics boss Brad Stevens being highly instrumental in Thomas' peak seasons in the NBA. According to Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix, it simply doesn't add up anymore (via Boston.com).

“Brad Stevens does feel a certain loyalty to Isaiah Thomas for what he did for that team in 2017—playing hurt, pushing them into the conference finals. There’s definitely an attachment there. The problem is that we’ve got a pretty good look at what Isaiah is a basketball player right now. He’s just not close to the player that he was during his best years in Boston.”

As harsh as that may sound, there's truth to Mannix's assessment. But as IT has repeatedly said, all he needs is a REAL chance to prove himself again. He doesn't want to be considered a charity case with a 10-day contract. Thomas wants a legit shot at an NBA roster.
