With the Boston Celtics opening their preseason on Monday, it gave their players a chance to play the closest to competitive basketball for the first time since last season. That said, it’s understandable that they may not be at their best yet, as they continue to work on their strength and conditioning following the long summer break.

Even analysts covering the games may not have adjusted yet to the grind of the new season, including long-time Celtics color commentator Tommy Heinsohn, who made an uncomfortable comment about Aron Baynes during the match.

“I took a look at Baynes in the shower… he looks like all of Australia. He is really put together.”

While he never wanted to sound awkward during the broadcast, it was also hard not to smirk or react to Heinsohn's observation. It’s easy to understand the point he wanted to make, but better choice of words could’ve made it sound better.

At this stage of the preseason, many will give Heinsohn the benefit of the doubt, it could also be that he is still on vacation mode, and the absence of games to cover during the offseason can explain all of this. But being the professional and expert that he is, it can be expected that he will return to his more common ways sooner rather than later.
