Barcelona have been sent to the Europa League for the first time in nearly two decades after Bayern Munich destroyed them in their latest Champions League group stage showdown. However, the embarrassment doesn't stop there for the struggling Spanish club.

According to ESPN Stats & Info, the German power house has been a real nightmare for Barcelona in the Champions League. In fact, among all opponents Barca have face in the tournament, Bayern have given them the worst goal differential at -15. Atletico and Valencia were next on the list, but they are nowhere near how the Bavarians humiliated Barcelona whenever they meet.

This is only the latest on Barcelona's free-fall since they parted ways with Lionel Messi. Surely, it is no coincidence that they fell out of the Champions League in their first year without their talisman and headed down to the Europa League. The last time they were in the competition was in 2003-04 campaign when it was called the UEFA Cup.

Messi, for his part, joined Barcelona's main team in 2004 and made history on the way.

Barcelona's troubles are unlike to end any time soon, especially with the way they are playing both in the European stage and in domestic football. They are seventh in La Liga, with tons of ways to go before catching up with the top teams like Real Madrid and Sevilla.
