Don't be surprised if Derrick Rose soon becomes an ex-New York Knick. As told by sources to Stefan Bondy and Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, the idea of Rose staying with the Knicks has gone lukewarm of late.

Despite reports of mutual interest before Phil Jackson was fired, a reunion between the Knicks and Derrick Rose appears to be a long shot, according to two sources with knowledge of the situation.

This report comes after the Knicks drafted Frank Ntilikina in the first-round of the 2017 NBA Draft, a move that could be taken as a fallback in case Rose eventually leaves the Big Apple this summer. Apart from that, the Knicks have also re-signed second-year guard Ron Baker.

A Rose-less guard rotation for the Knicks, however, doesn't sound like something that would make opposing teams wake up in cold sweat unless the team finds a way to lure any of the top free agent guards on the market like a George Hill or a Kyle Lowry. That said, the team doesn't have much wiggle room in their salary cap, which only has only around $15 million worth of free space as of this writing per Basketball Reference.

Rose's health has been a big question mark for him and that's not going to change moving forward. That considered, the Knicks will have to be extra prudent if they are planning to structure a deal for the former league MVP. For now, the door is still open, technically, for Rose's return to Madison Square Garden.
