In the days leading into Week 4 action against the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Chargers star wide receiver Keenan Allen's status for the contest has been in question after missing practice twice this week. Head coach Anthony Lynn has provided clarity on the situation stating on Friday that the expectation is that Allen will give it a go for Sunday's game, according to Sam Fortier of The Athletic.

There hadn't been any serious doubt that Allen was going to potentially miss Week 4 even though he had missed both Wednesday and Thursday's practices that may have been done as more of a precautionary measure with him. He plays a critical role in the offensive game plan as one of the focal points in the passing game and driving forces.

Allen has been off to a strong start to the 2018 season notching 17 catches for 219 receiving yards and a touchdown. This includes a 100 receiving yard performance in the season opener. He has been their top receiving option over the last few seasons as Philip Rivers primary passing target that saw him put together his best campaign in 2017 where he had career highs with 102 catches for 1,393 receiving yards along with six touchdowns while playing in all 16 regular season games for the first time in his career.

He could be in store for a strong outing against the 49ers' secondary that will be without star cornerback Richard Sherman, who is dealing with a leg injury. This may open the door for him to play a big factor in the passing game to help the Chargers bounce back from their Week 3 loss to the Rams. If Allen is limited in any manner on Sunday against the 49ers, Rivers could look to spread the ball around more to Mike Williams, Tyrell Williams, Antonio Gates, or Melvin Gordon.
