Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn has shut down all the rumors that the team might sign free agent Earl Thomas, in light of the injury to safety Derwin James.

During a conference call with reporters on Monday, Lynn was asked if the Chargers have inquired about Earl Thomas yet, and Lynn was quick to say no.

“Since you guys are constantly telling me how stacked my secondary is, why the hell would I be looking anywhere else?” Chargers coach Anthony Lynn said, per The Athletic's Daniel Popper.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport recently reported that safety Derwin James is expected to miss the whole 2020 season due to a meniscus injury. So with James out, the Chargers' secondary will have a big hole to fill this season; however, as Lynn said, he thinks they can handle it.

Also, even though Thomas will make a major impact for whichever team signs him, mo one can ignore the reason why he was released by the Baltimore Ravens, which was a personal conduct issue. The Chargers are aware of this.

Nevertheless, with James out, the Chargers currently have four safeties on their depth chart: Rayshawn Jenkins, Desmond Kind, Nasir Adderley and sixth-round pick Alohi Gilman. Addlerley, who was the Chargers' second- round draft pick in 2019, is expected to get more playing time now that James is out. This past season, Addlerley only played in four games and recorded just two tackles.

The Chargers are slated to play their regular season on Sept. 13 against the Cincinnati Bengals. However, there won't be any fans to start off the season.
