Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn hinted this past weekend veteran Tyrod Taylor had the inside track to be the team's starting quarterback.

While Lynn would not outright name Taylor as the favorite, he noted he has history with the former Buffalo Bills signal-caller and also stated the Chargers do not want to rush Justin Herbert's development.

Just a few days later, however, it appears the Chargers will indeed begin the season with Taylor under center.

Lynn said Wednesday the former Pro Bowler will “probably be our Day 1 starter,” per Jason B. Hirschhorn of NFL.com.

Taylor spent the 2019 season as Philip Rivers' backup and has had a full season to study the Chargers' offensive system.

As previously mentioned, he and Lynn have history in Buffalo, where Taylor made the Pro Bowl in 2015 and became a dual threat as both a passer and a runner.

Taylor also began the 2018 season as the starter for the Cleveland Browns, though he was soon replaced by No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield.

The Chargers have done a decent job of putting Taylor in a position to succeed. They traded for Pro Bowl guard Trai Turner in the offseason, and also agreed to an extension with versatile running back Austin Ekeler.

Of course, the most important element figures to be Lynn's relationship with Taylor.

It is possible things could change before the start of the season. Perhaps Herbert wows Lynn in training camp. Or, perhaps the Chargers make a late bid for Colin Kaepernick.

For now, however, Taylor looks like the starter in L.A.
