Melvin Gordon watch has reached 41 days. Over a month ago, the Los Angeles Chargers two-time Pro Bowl running back decided to hold out amid a want for a contract extension.

Over the weekend, the Chargers granted his permission to seek a trade and then affirmed they would curb contract talks until after the 2019 season ends. Head coach Anthony Lynn doesn't have a comment about the back; now, he's in regular-season mode and is focused on beating the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

“My concern right now is on Indianapolis,” Lynn said on Monday, per ESPN's Eric D. Williams. “We've talked about that for a long time. I'm just ready to move on — we're playing games.”

When asked if he'll talk about the situation and the new developments over the busy weekend, Lynn remained mum, saying:

“Not at all. We've been talking about this for a month and a half. Now, it's time to play football.”

Earlier this week, before he decided to stop the contract talks, general manager Tom Telesco said, per ESPN:

“I’m disappointed it has lasted this long. I pride myself in having solutions to problems, and I haven’t solved this one yet. We know what he means to our team, and even bigger than that what he means to our organization. But the other side is we have a big game coming up this week with the Colts, and I’m confident in the players that we have on the field right now will play well.”

The ball is in Gordon's court. He can accept to play on the fifth-year option worth $5.605 million or he can sweat it out, a la Le'Veon Bell in 2018. One thing is definite, however: the Chargers are preparing to start the season whether Gordon is there or not.
