The Los Angeles Chargers have been hit by the injury bug throughout this offseason with several prominent players on both sides of the ball going down with significant ailments.

According to Eric Williams of ESPN, Pro Bowl cornerback Casey Hayward has been the latest to suffer an injury as he has appeared to hurt his hamstring at the tail end of practice on Tuesday.

This has the potential to being a lingering issue as it is commonly an injury that takes several weeks to fully heal because of the location of it. For the time being, it should keep him out of the final two preseason games as the team wants to have him in the fold to begin the 2018 season as the hope is that he can once again be a major factor in their secondary, especially with fellow cornerback Jason Verrett out for the season with a torn ACL that he suffered earlier this month.

Hayward has emerged as one of the top players in the league at his position over the last couple of seasons. He is coming off a breakout 2017 season where he earned second straight Pro Bowl selection and Second-Team All-Pro nod. The 28-year-old has now firmly established himself as a premier cornerback and a centerpiece of the Chargers' secondary. All of this will push Los Angeles to take the precautionary route with the situation moving forward over the next couple of weeks

The Chargers have much buzz around them this offseason as a potential dark horse to make a serious run at the playoffs and possibly much further than that. The front office has assembled a talented roster that could see franchise finally breakthrough in the AFC West. There should be much more to come on this front with Hayward in the coming days as the team further assesses the matter.
