Family is at the forefront of the decision of most professional athletes when their respective sports end up returning to playing. For Chris Harris of the Los Angeles Chargers, his worries about playing football once the NFL season begins are a tough pill to swallow.

“With me, I know I can beat it. I know that I can try to fight through it the best that I can,” Harris said in an interview with Mike Florio of NBC Sports. “But, it’s just worrying about my four little girls and my wife and my family. That’s where I have a big issue is not putting them in danger. I don’t want to be the cause of them getting sick or anything from that. That’s where the worry comes from.”

After having played for the Denver Broncos for nine seasons, Harris jumped across the AFC West division and signed with the Los Angeles Chargers for two years and $17 million, where he will be joining an already-stout defense that includes safety Derwin James and defensive end Joey Bosa.

For Harris, he is transitioning from a defense with Von Miller and Bradley Chubb to one that boasts James and Bosa, as well as DE Melvin Ingram and cornerbacks Casey Hayward and Desmond King, which makes for a room full of proven stars that can hopefully lead to the Chargers earning their first divisional title in a decade.

And with the current pandemic going on, Harris has been unable to get on the field with any of his new Chargers teammates, but he feels as though that this kind of moment, where being careful supersedes a sense of normalcy, he will be able to come out of it just as well prepared.

“It’s an uncomfortable situation. I haven’t really gotten to meet my (Chargers) teammates face to face, coaches included or anybody in the organization. That is different,” Harris said. “But I’m excited about it. I feel like you get the most growth when you’re put in uncomfortable situations. So, I’m looking at it that way and taking it as a challenge.”
