Over the last several months, there has been continued uncertainty surrounding All-Pro safety Earl Thomas' long-term future with the Seattle Seahawks. This noise hasn't quieted down in the offseason as Thomas has made his intentions clear by choosing not to show up for minicamp.

It has left the door open to the Seahawks possibly moving on from Thomas, who is in the final year of his four-year, $40 million deal, at some point this summer. With that in mind, Field Yates of ESPN has suggested that the Los Angeles Chargers make a run at the 29-year-old (h/t Derek Lewis of 247 Sports).

Yes, they used a first-round pick on Derwin James, but top-tier defenses don't overthink talent. Former Seahawks coordinator Gus Bradley holds the same spot in Los Angeles. The New England Patriots are an example of a team that relied on three-safety looks on two thirds of their snaps last season. It's a valuable position, and there is no such thing as having too many talented defensive backs.

The Chargers may have filled a pressing need in the secondary with the selection of former Florida State standout safety Derwin James in the first round of this year's draft. The addition of Thomas would be a significant upgrade. He is arguably the best player in the league at his position and could be a major impact player for Los Angeles.

There is the obvious connection with the Gus Bradley now employed by the Chargers. Perhaps that could help allow Thomas to come in and fit smoothly into the mix. However, there hasn't been any chatter toward this scenario playing out given that the team is likely satisfied with their current group in the secondary with James being in the mix.

Granted, if the opportunity were to present itself to Los Angeles, the conversation could begin to heat up. It is simply a situation in Seattle that is up in the air that could see Thomas wind up in a number of places over the next few months.
