Los Angeles Chargers guard Trai Turner, who alongside Cam Newton with the Carolina Panthers, thinks it would be awesome if the two were teammates again in Los Angeles. Turned made an appearance on the Rapsheet + Friends podcast, and also said he thinks Newton still has some good football years left in him.

“Yeah, we talk, we still have conversations about that. I think right now his biggest thing for him is to be 100 percent healthy, which I think he is, not just physically but mentally also to see what his next phase would be in his career,” Turner told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. “I do believe that he's a starter in the NFL, I don't know where it would be. May or may not be with the Chargers but if he is that would be awesome and if it's Tyrod [Taylor], that's still great.

Turner said he is ready to ride with whoever is their starting quarterback, and if the season were to start today that would be Tyrod Taylor.

“I'm riding with whoever's back there so I'm excited about that. But yeah, it'll be interesting to see man. I don't know, I feel like you got more of the scoop than me so I guess I'd be asking you.”

Right now it's unclear if the Panthers have a lot of interest in Newton, and a lot could depend on what the do during the draft. The Chargers currently own the sixth overall pick, and many believe a quarterback could be selected with that selection. If they don't draft a quarterback early, maybe that's when they could take a closer look at Newton in free agency.
