Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen is apparently hanging up his Madden cleats, once and for all.

“Keenan Allen said he doesn't play Madden anymore because ‘that game is trash,'” The Athletic's Daniel Popper tweeted on Monday.

Keenan Allen is rated 92 overall in Madden 21, the sixth best rating at his position.

This isn't the first time Keenan Allen has voiced his displeasure with EA Sports' iconic video game franchise in the past couple years. In July 2019, Allen said he was boycotting Madden 20 due to his rating of 89, which he felt was disrespectful.

However, in April, after Chargers safety Derwin James defeated Keenan Allen in a charity game of Madden, James estimated that he and Allen had “probably done played over 30 times.”

“At one point we were playing like every day,” said James.

“We knew it was going to be tough,” Allen said at the time. “We always play each other.”

Keenan Allen has repeatedly disagreed with the EA team's evaluation of his skills. Earlier this month, the Chargers wideout filmed a video for Bleacher Report in which he performed one-on-one drills against his teammate, Casey Heyward, to prove he's worthy of a higher rating.

In Keenan Allen's defense, Madden 21 got panned critically and commercially upon its release. (For what it's worth, as somebody who has played far too many hours of the latest version, I can personally say that while the gameplay typically smooth, the overall product feels noticeably incomplete and generally unsatisfying.)

Keenan Allen has 44 receptions for 481 yards and two touchdowns in 2020, and he remains one of the league's most effective third down options.
