There has been plenty of speculation regarding the Los Angeles Chargers chargers plans under center this offseason. It appears they will be going into the 2020 NFL season with their in-house option.

According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the Chargers have pegged quarterback Tyrod Taylor as their starter:

With Tom Brady headed to the Bucs, the Chargers are not expected to sign or trade for a veteran QB, I’m told. They are moving forward with Tyrod Taylor for 2020.

The Chargers made headlines when they announced their decision to part ways with quarterback Philip Rivers this offseason. As a result, many expected them to try and make a splash under center at the start of free agency, however, it was soon revealed that they were dropping out of the sweepstakes for quarterback Tom Brady, who has since signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The move to name Taylor as the starter is certainly an intriguing one considering the names that are still on the market. With Brady in at Tampa Bay, quarterback Jameis Winston will be looking for a new home this offseason.

Meanwhile, the Carolina Panthers have announced that they will be parting ways with quarterback Cam Newton. Regardless, it seems Los Angeles is confident that none of these options are better than Taylor.

The Chargers are set to usher in a new era at SoFi Stadium in the 2020 campaign. Although Taylor is not exactly a household name that helps kick things off in style, his track record as a proven starter throughout his career gives them good reason to be optimistic.
