The Miami Dolphins have decided to make some major alterations to their roster over the last few days by moving on from a few of their cornerstone players. One of which, the requested release of Pro Bowl center Mike Pouncey after seven seasons with the organization.

This will mark the first time that Pouncey has been on the free agent market where he is expected to draw plenty of interest across the league. According to Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network, he has already held a visit with the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

Pouncey had started every game with the Dolphins last season but had requested to be let out of the five-year, $52.15 million extension that still had three years left in the deal. The team had asked the 28-year-old to take a pay cut, which he was instead looking to land a long-term deal. However, Miami was not looking to renegotiate a more lucrative deal with Pouncey after signing Pro Bowl offensive Josh Sitton and traded for veteran center Daniel Kilgore.

During his tenure with the Dolphins, he had established himself as one of the top centers in the league behind three Pro Bowl selections. In fact, he became the third player in team history to earn Pro Bowl nods at two different positions playing both center and guard joining the likes of Cameron Wake and Randy Starks in this exclusive feat.

Meanwhile, the Chargers have been unable to find a long-term replacement at the center position since Nick Hardick made the decision to retire after the 2014 campaign. This could heighten the push to sign Pouncey given the need to upgrade at the position to provide more stability. He is in the prime of his career and could get the lucrative he desires with the Chargers this offseason.

Los Angeles appears to be trending upward after their strong finish the 2017 season narrowly missing out on the playoffs. Pouncey's addition would be a significant step in the right direction.
