The Los Angeles Chargers have announced the signing of wide receiver Fred Trevillion who played his college ball with the San Diego State Aztecs. In a corresponding move, they waived wide receiver Trevion Thompson with an injury designation.

Trevillion went undrafted after a senior year where he caught 22 passes for 598 yards and three touchdowns. Trevillion actually started as a defensive back with the Aztecs in 2014 before transferring to Southwest Mississippi Community College where he switched to receiver. In 2017 he returned to the Aztecs and was a solid player, although never a standout.

After the Aztecs Pro Day, Tony Pauline of draftanalyst.com thought Trevillion was the standout of the day, and really opened his eyes.

Underrated receiver and return specialist Fred Trevillion tested well and stood out in position drills. He measured 6025 and 182 pounds and was timed in the low 4.4-second range during the 40.

In 2018 against Fresno State, Trevillion had the best game of his college career hauling in 189 receiving yards and two touchdowns on just four receptions. He was named to the Pro Football Focus National team of the week for the performance. He also led the country in 2018 in yards per catch at 27.2 yards.

The Chargers now have ten wideouts on their roster, and although he is at best a long shot to make the roster, he at least has a chance. Maybe if he can't make the team he will do enough to land on the Chargers practice squad or another team will decide he belongs on their practice squad.
