Melvin Gordon has been sitting out for quite some time now as he waited for a new contract from the Los Angeles Chargers. With talks moving forward, there was speculation that Gordon could sit out the entire season. That will not be the case.

According to a report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Gordon will end his holdout and will report to the team on Thursday.

Gordon's return is a huge development for the Chargers. He will likely replace Austin Ekeler as the starting running back, but the team will now have two lethal running backs to utilize for the remainder of the season.

Last year, Gordon ended up carrying the football 175 times for 885 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also caught 50 passes for 490 yards and four touchdowns on the season. Having that kind of a dual-threat back with the big-play potential that he brings will only help take more pressure off of Philip Rivers.

Los Angeles has struggled to open the season. They still feel that they are one of the best teams in the AFC and having their star running back on the field should help them make a run.

While Melvin Gordon is returning to the team, there is still a big picture to look at. The Chargers may not be willing to give Gordon the kind of money he is looking for. That could lead to another dramatic situation next offseason.

Either way, this is huge news for the Chargers and it will be good to see “Flash” Gordon back on the field.
