Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon has emerged as being one of the top all-around players in the NFL at his position over the last couple of years.

Much of this has been his increased involvement in the passing game that has made him a more effective offensive weapon for the Chargers. According to Dan Graziano of ESPN, head coach Anthony Lynn has voiced that Gordon will see in an uptick in the targets he will see as a receiver out of the backfield.

The 25-year-old is coming off his most productive campaign where he notched a career-best 85 targets where he recorded 58 catches for 476 receiving yards for four touchdowns. It was also his first 1,000 rushing yard campaign of his career that helped him join Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson as the only players in franchise history to record at least 1,400 scrimmage yards and 12 touchdowns in consecutive seasons.

Lynn has continued to praise Gordon this offseason for his ability to be a viable receiving option that should only lend well to him being a more highly featured in the passing game from Pro Bowl quarterback Philip Rivers. It may see him put together the best year of his career with an even more involved role in the offense that already has him as the primary option in the running game.

All of this sets the table for Gordon to have plenty of opportunities to make a more significant impact in the 2018 campaign while helping guide his team to their first playoff appearance in five years. It will be on his shoulders to take advantage of the situation that will present itself in front of him.
