Los Angeles chargers running back Melvin Gordon has not been shy about expressing his desire for a new contract. He has now confirmed that he is willing to sit out as long as he needs to in order to either get paid or be traded.

Gordon's comments indicate that he could be looking to move on from Los Angeles. According to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk, that does not appear to be the case.

“I want to end up with the Chargers. That’s my home,” Gordon said. “I’m not going to sit here and be like, ‘Man, I don’t want to go back to the Chargers, dah, dah, dah.’ Like that’s the team that blessed me with an opportunity. They started my life. They changed my life. Of all 32 teams, that was the team that called me. I can’t forget them for that.”

“But it’s an opportunity right now where I know I need to take advantage of it. You know, I want to get paid. That’s just kind of what it is. Hopefully I end up a Charger. That’s the goal. I want to end up with the Chargers.”

Gordon's comments are certainly understandable. He has become a central force in the Chargers' offense in recent years. Unfortunately, running backs have seen their value on the market decrease during that time. As a result, he is hoping to lock up some long-term security while he is still healthy.

Gordon is slated to make $5.6 million in the 2019 NFL season. there is no question that he is certainly deserving of a new, lucrative contract after all he has done in Los Angeles. He finished the 2018 campaign with 885 rushing yards and ten touchdowns while tacking on 50 receptions for 590 yards, and four receiving touchdowns en route to his second Pro Bowl.

Regardless, neither Gordon or the Chargers have given any indication of where they are in negotiations. Although he is subject to being fined while still under contract, it is safe to say that the 26-year-old is all in on holding out until something gets done.
