The Los Angeles Chargers will be without their starting kicker for a second consecutive week. According to Ian Rapoport, Michael Badgley won't play in Week 2 versus the Detroit Lions.

As a result of Bagley being inactive, the Chargers will be forced to have Ty Long kick field goals again. Long served as the team's punter and kicker in Week 1 as Los Angeles took down the Indianapolis Colts.

In the Chargers victory in Week 1, Long converted his only field-goal attempt with a 40-yard field goal in the second quarter. Along with his field goals, the kicker/punter made all three of his extra-point tries and both of his punts pinned the Colts inside their own 20-yard line.

Furthermore, the former undrafted punter was productive in his first game for the Chargers in Week 1. In the end, Long ended up being a difference-maker in Los Angeles' 30-24 win in overtime.

As for Badgley, the second-year kicker missed the first week of the season due to a groin injury. The kicker out of Miami is expected to make his return to the starting lineup in Week 3 against the Houston Texans.

Last year, Badgley was a savior for the Chargers as they struggled to find a kicker in the first six weeks of the season. Badgley delivered for Los Angeles by making 15 of his 16 field-goal attempts—including a 59-yard bomb.

The Chargers will take on the Lions in a game where they are favored by 1.5 points. Therefore, the Chargers may need to rely on Long to help seal a close win on the road on Sunday.
