New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick rarely compliments opponents, especially QBs, so it holds real weight when he does. And by the looks of it, Belichick is a big fan of Los Angeles Chargers signal-caller Justin Herbert.

On Monday as the Patriots prepare for the Chargers for their Week 8 showdown, Belichick didn't hold back in his praise for Herbert. He even went as far as to saying that the 23-year-old is going to dominate the NFL in the years to come.

“He’s really good,” Belichick said, per Pro Football Talk. “I thought he was outstanding [in college]. He just really had everything you’re looking for. He’s very athletic. Good arm. A lot of poise. Played well in Oregon. Just a number of big plays. All the passes. All the throws, but extended plays, scrambles, could run the read-zone and all that.

“He’s as good a quarterback as I’ve seen come out here in quite a while, especially as it fits the pro game. I don’t think you’re going to find too many better than him. This guy is really an impressive player. I thought he was really good when we played them last year, and, luckily, we had a pretty good day, but I’m not counting on that again. I have a ton of respect for him. I think he’s going to be one of the top quarterbacks in the league for a long time to come.”

Of course given Bill Belichick's nature, his praise isn't without reason. Justin Herbert has helped the Chargers (4-2) contend for the top spot in the AFC West–only behind the Las Vegas Raiders by virtue of their bye week.

In the six games Herbert has played so far, he has already recorded 1771 yards on 65.4 percent completion rate. The former Oregon Ducks standout has already 14 touchdowns, which puts him on pace for another 40-touchdown season.

With the way Herbert is playing, no wonder why Belichick has been impressed with the sixth pick of the 2020 NFL Draft. And sure enough, Bill and his Patriots will make it a priority to stop him from getting his way when they play each other.

For Herbert, though, it's certainly a big thing to be complimented by one of the league's legendary coaches who has worked with the GOAT QB Tom Brady.
