The Los Angeles Chargers find themselves in a hole once again after a 20-17 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Not only does their two-game losing streak put them at 3-6 on the season, but they may have suffered a key casualty in the process with Philip Rivers.

Despite the overall struggles of the offense, the veteran quarterback put up a decent stat-line against Jacksonville. However, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, head coach Anthony Lynn says that Rivers has since been placed on concussion protocol:

Although Rivers played the entire game on Sunday with no indication of a concussion, Chargers coach Anthony Lynn announced today that Rivers is in the concussion protocol now.

It is hard to tell when exactly Rivers sustained the injury after finishing the game with 235 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Perhaps it came in overtime when he laid a solid hit on A.J. Bouye after throwing a pick.

Regardless, his injury designation now leaves a huge void in the middle of the Chargers' struggling offense.

Stepping in as the starter could be veteran quarterback Kellen Clemens, while Cardale Jones serves as the backup. Clemens has seen little action since joining the Chargers prior to the 2014 NFL season.

Fortunately, Rivers has proven to be one of the most durable players in the league; he has not missed a start since taking over under center in 2006. So, it should only be a matter of time before he returns.
