Mike Pouncey was attempting to return to the Los Angeles Chargers this season despite battling back from a hip injury that prevented him from suiting up in Week 1.

Even though he was optimistic about playing in 2020, Pouncey is landing on injured reserve after undergoing season-ending hip surgery, per the team's official Twitter account.

During the week leading up to the Chargers' season opener versus the Cincinnati Bengals, Pouncey was unable to practice. He would be ruled out for Week 1 and now he's been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Injuries have continued to plague the Chargers, as Pouncey joins All-Pro Derwin James on the team's injured reserve list. The loss of Pouncey is a vital blow to Los Angeles' offensive line, preventing them from having the continuity they would like to begin the season.

As a result of Pouncey going on injured reserve, Dan Feeney will likely start in his place as he did in Week 1. Feeney played on all of the team's 74 offensive snaps versus the Bengals. Throughout those snaps, he allowed zero sacks on Tyrod Taylor as the Chargers would win the game, 16-13.

Pouncey was entering his third year with Los Angeles after signing a one-year, $9 million extension in 2019. Therefore, the veteran center will enter free agency after the 2020 season.

Last season, Pouncey's season was cut short due to undergoing surgery on his neck last October. The Pro Bowl center was limited to only five games with the Chargers in 2019. Now, Pouncey will log zero games, per ESPN's Adam Schefter, for Los Angeles in 2020 after he gets surgery on his ailing hip.
