Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert entered Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos Sunday needing two touchdown passes to supplant Philip Rivers for the most in a single season in franchise history. That's just the next in a long line of records Justin Herbert has set this season.

Herbert threw his first touchdown pass of the game in the closing seconds of the first half. He found Keenan Allen for an 8-yard touchdown. That set the stage for the big one to set the record.

The Chargers were well in control in the 4th quarter when Herbert looked deep. He found Mike Williams for a 45-yard touchdown. It was Herbert's 35th passing touchdown of the season.

That broke the franchise record previously set by Rivers back in 2008. That season, Rivers led the league with his 34 passing touchdowns. The league has changed drastically since then. Passing has become much more prominent, with more and more rule changes set up to help offenses.

Those changes have helped passing games specifically. That in turn has allowed Herbert to break Rivers' franchise record in only his 2nd season as a pro. Herbert finished the game 22 for 31, for 237 yards and two touchdowns.

Herbert and the Chargers dominated the Broncos Sunday. Los Angeles beat Denver, 34-13. With the win, the Chargers improved to 9-7 on the season and are tied with the Indianapolis Colts and Las Vegas Raiders for the two wild card spots. The Chargers defeated the Raiders in their earlier meeting this season. So, Los Angeles is currently the last playoff team in. However, they finish the regular season with a game against the Raiders in an essential play-in game.
