Austin Ekeler exited early in the Los Angeles Chargers loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with apparent knee and hamstring injuries. After seeking a second opinion on his injuries, Ekeler won't require surgery, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Following last Sunday's defeat to the Buccaneers, Austin Ekeler was discovered to have sustained an injury to his knee and hamstring. The dual-threat running back was seen leaving the game on crutches and he would be required to undergo MRI tests.

Upon the results of the MRI, Ekeler was expected to miss multiple weeks for the Chargers. And with a second opinion taking place on his ailments, Ekeler will avoid surgery and is slated to return in four-t0-six weeks.

Losing Ekeler for an extended period of time is less-than-ideal for Los Angles this early in the season. At the least though, they should be able to have him back before the season concludes.

Through the first four weeks of the season, Ekeler has accounted for 392 scrimmage yards and a touchdown. But until he's able to return to the backfield, rookie Joshua Kelley and Justin Jackson will see expanded roles in the offense.

Kelley has contributed 258 yards from scrimmage this season and he's also found the end zone once. Unlike Ekeler, Kelley has been limited as a receiving threat this season, catching just seven passes for 84 yards.

The injuries continue to pile up for the Chargers this season as they've dealt with injuries to Derwin James, Mike Williams, Melvin Ingram, Tyrod Taylor, and now Ekeler. James is going to miss the entire season due to a knee injury.

While the offense has shown improvement with Justin Herbert in recent weeks, they'll be without Ekeler for around a month.
